Opeifa said the arrest marked a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on railway vandalism and theft of public infrastructure.
According to him, the suspect was arrested around Rigasa, Kaduna, after allegedly purchasing stolen NRC electrical cables worth ₦90,000 from vandals. The operation followed intelligence reports on vandalised electrical installations along the Mando–Rigasa corridor on Tuesday, October 14.

In a related operation, NRC operatives intercepted a trailer loaded with railway components along the Forom axis (KM 822–823) in Plateau State. The truck was reportedly abandoned by its driver, who fled the scene before police arrival. It was later towed to the Jos Railway Police Station on Wednesday, October 15.
Opeifa commended the Nigeria Police, Railway Command for their swift response and intelligence-led operations, describing the arrest and recovery as proof of renewed synergy between the corporation and security agencies.
“These acts of vandalism are forms of economic sabotage. The NRC will continue to work closely with the Police, NSCDC, and other security agencies to ensure offenders are brought to justice,” he stated.
The NRC boss further urged residents of communities hosting railway facilities to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities.
He emphasized that the railway system plays a vital role in national development, stressing that its protection requires collective responsibility from all Nigerians.
