South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has been released from detention after prosecutors opted not to challenge a court ruling that overturned his arrest.
Yoon, who was impeached by lawmakers after declaring martial law, was seen bowing to cheering supporters waving South Korean and US flags as he walked out of the detention centre on Saturday.

His release followed a decision by the Seoul Central District Court on Friday to cancel his arrest warrant on legal and technical grounds. The Seoul Detention Centre confirmed receiving an official order from the prosecutors’ office instructing his release.
Yoon had been in detention since January after being arrested on charges of leading an insurrection—one of the few offences for which a sitting president does not have immunity.
