EKO HOT BLOG reports that sources within INEC confirmed that Amupitan would take charge immediately after the inauguration, which comes as the commission intensifies preparations for the November 8 Anambra State governorship election.
INEC insiders disclosed that some of Amupitan’s aides had already been sighted at the commission’s headquarters, signaling readiness for the transition. “He may likely assume office next week,” a senior official said.
Amupitan, 58, is a Professor of Law at the University of Jos and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. He was confirmed by the Senate last Thursday after a screening session led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. He replaces Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, whose tenure recently ended.
Meanwhile, INEC has assured the public of its full preparedness for the forthcoming Anambra election. National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, told journalists in Awka that logistics, technology, and security arrangements were in place.
Olumekun said Permanent Voter Cards from the recently concluded registration exercise would be available for collection from October 22 to 26. He also warned against fake news that could undermine the credibility of the polls.

Anambra Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Elizabeth Awgu, confirmed that materials would leave the CBN depot on Thursday to ensure early arrival at polling stations.
