EKO HOT BLOG reports that Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made this clarification in an interview with Saturday Punch. He explained that the changes were made to inject new energy and leadership into the Armed Forces, not because of any security threat or political unrest.
“Service chiefs can be hired and fired by the President. He is the Commander-in-Chief. He has the power to hire and fire,” Onanuga stated.
On Friday, President Tinubu announced a major shake-up in the nation’s military leadership. In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President appointed General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.
Other new appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. Meanwhile, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retained his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

The President charged the new service chiefs to demonstrate professionalism, loyalty, and renewed commitment to national security. He urged them to work in unity and strengthen collaboration across the military to ensure effective defence operations.
According to Dare, the appointments take immediate effect.
