The Federal Government has addressed the growing speculation surrounding an alleged failed military coup against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, in a brief response during a TVC interview on Tuesday, said Nigerians should rely on the official position of the military regarding the matter.

According to Dare, the Presidency will continue to align with the military’s stance that there was no coup attempt, emphasizing that only the armed forces are constitutionally empowered to secure the country.
“We are going to stick to the narrative of the military because they are the ones constitutionally empowered to secure this country,” Dare stated. “Until the military comes with a different narrative, we will maintain that position.”

Earlier, on October 18, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) had dismissed social media reports claiming that Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary celebration was cancelled due to a supposed coup plot, describing the reports as “false and misleading.”
Rumours of a possible coup had intensified following President Tinubu’s recent decision to replace the Service Chiefs, sparking speculation about unease within the military.
Meanwhile, military investigators are said to be interrogating the Managing Director of a Federal Government agency in the South-South over alleged financial links to the purported coup plot.

Intelligence sources revealed that the MD was arrested for allegedly transferring a substantial amount of money to former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and ex-Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, who has been accused of funding the alleged plot to overthrow the government.
“The MD transferred a huge sum to Sylva. Investigators believe the money was intended to support the coup plot,” a source disclosed.

Sylva’s Abuja residence was reportedly raided by military operatives over the weekend. His younger brother, Paga — who serves as his Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs — and his driver were arrested during the operation.
Sources said Sylva, who is currently abroad, suspended his return to Nigeria after learning about the arrests linked to the alleged coup investigation.
