Tinubu’s invitation to the G20 Summit came from South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, the current President of the G20. Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva had earlier invited him to the 2024 edition in Rio de Janeiro during his own G20 presidency.
The G20 Summit, scheduled for November 22–23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, will gather leaders of the world’s major economies, alongside representatives of the African Union, European Union, and global financial institutions. This year’s theme is “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability.”

Discussions will cover inclusive and sustainable growth, global trade, financing for development, debt management, climate change, disaster risk reduction, food systems, clean energy transitions, critical minerals, decent work, and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence.
Tinubu is also expected to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit to advance Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthen partnerships on regional and global peace, security, and economic development.
After the G20 Summit, the President will travel to Luanda for the AU-EU Summit slated for November 24–25, 2025. The gathering will bring together African and European leaders, young innovators, and civil society groups to discuss climate action, inclusive development, infrastructure, digital economy expansion, creative industries, manufacturing, and agribusiness.
Accompanying him are the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake; Minister of Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
The President will return to Nigeria at the conclusion of both meetings.
