First batch of Sokoto pilgrims to return June 14
Two female pilgrims from Sokoto State have died in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, after successfully completing the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.
The Deputy Amirul Hajj and Grand Khadi of Sokoto State, Alhaji Sodangi Acida, confirmed the development in a statement issued by the Head of Information and Communications of the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Faruku Umar.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the deceased pilgrims were identified as Ladi Umar from Bodinga Local Government Area and Hadiza Umar from Yabo Local Government Area of the state.
According to Acida, the two women died following an accident in Makkah after completing the Hajj rites.
He disclosed that two other female pilgrims involved in the same accident are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Saudi Arabia.
The Deputy Amirul Hajj said one of the injured pilgrims is being treated for a fracture, while the other is receiving medical attention for a dislocated arm.
Acida conveyed the condolences of the Sokoto State Government to the families of the deceased and prayed for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness upon them.
He also prayed that Allah grant them Aljannatul Firdaus.
### Sokoto Pilgrims to Begin Return Journey June 14
The Deputy Amirul Hajj further announced that the first batch of Sokoto pilgrims will depart Saudi Arabia for Nigeria on June 14.
He explained that the return operation would be conducted based on the principle of “first to arrive, first to depart.”
Acida urged all pilgrims to strictly comply with approved luggage regulations ahead of their return flights.
He reminded them that each pilgrim must ensure their luggage does not exceed the approved 32-kilogram limit.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar JJ, commended Governor Ahmad Aliyu for his support and commitment to the welfare of pilgrims throughout the 2026 Hajj exercise.
He also praised members of the state delegation, the agency’s board and staff, as well as the pilgrims, for their cooperation and support during the pilgrimage.
According to him, their collective efforts contributed significantly to the successful conduct of the 2026 Hajj operation for pilgrims from Sokoto State.

The agency added that preparations were ongoing to ensure the smooth and orderly return of all pilgrims from Saudi Arabia in line with the approved flight schedule.
