The All Progressives Congress (APC) has backed former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent assessment of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Atiku Abubakar.
Obasanjo had described his decision to choose Atiku as his running mate in the 1999 presidential election as the biggest mistake of his presidency.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that reacting to the former president’s comments, APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, said Obasanjo was speaking from a position of knowledge about the former vice president.
Basiru, in an interview with Punch, described Atiku as a serial defector, saying his frequent movement between political parties was a characteristic of an “unserious politician.”
According to him, Obasanjo’s remarks reflected his personal experience and knowledge of Atiku.
“Obasanjo has said so many things about Atiku, and he is in a position to know who the former vice president is.
“Obasanjo’s comments are a warning to Nigerians. So, no serious Nigerian should take Atiku seriously or give him another leadership opportunity. Obasanjo has said Atiku was corrupt, disloyal and many things.
“In any event, Obasanjo is not supporting the APC; he is supporting the other people. But his statement about Atiku is from a position of knowledge because he knows him very well. So, in the interest of the country, no Nigerian should take Atiku seriously.”
Basiru further urged Nigerians to consider Obasanjo’s assessment when evaluating Atiku’s candidacy ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku, a former vice president, is expected to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the ADC after joining the opposition coalition that adopted the party as its political platform.
The development has intensified political activity ahead of the 2027 elections, with major political parties and opposition groups positioning themselves for the presidential contest.
