- President Bola Tinubu held a closed-door meeting on Friday with Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and select members of the House of Representatives at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
- The meeting took place shortly after the lawmakers joined the President for Jummah prayers at the State House Mosque, following a similar engagement with the Senate leadership earlier in the week.
- The talks come as the APC prepares to begin the sale of nomination forms this Saturday, with the House of Representatives primaries currently scheduled for May 15, 2026.
Following Friday’s Jummah prayers, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and a delegation of lawmakers, including Chief Whip Usman Kumo, followed President Bola Tinubu back to the office for an unscheduled private discussion.
Eko Hot Blog reports that while the specific details of the meeting were not made public, presidential aides confirmed the visit as part of ongoing strategic engagements between the executive and federal legislators.

The meeting follows the President’s recent sessions with both the Senate leadership and state governors.
During those prior engagements, Tinubu reportedly declined requests for automatic tickets for incumbent federal lawmakers, instead directing state governors to oversee the conduct of primaries in line with the Electoral Act.
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, confirmed that the President has empowered state executives to manage the process, whether through consensus or direct primaries.

As the 2027 election cycle approaches, these high-level consultations are viewed as critical for balancing power within the ruling party.
With the sale of nomination forms beginning this weekend, federal legislators are now navigating a landscape where their return bids may depend more heavily on state party structures.
The outcome of these negotiations is expected to shape the competitive field for the APC’s upcoming primary elections in May.
