EKO HOT BLOG recalls that the incident occurred on December 21, 2024, during the distribution of palliatives donated by a notable community member, Ernest Azudialu Obiejesi, through his Obijackson Foundation.
An inter-denominational burial service was held at St. Mary’s Field, Okija, on Friday. The event, organized by the Obijackson Foundation in collaboration with the royal palace of the Okija community, was attended by families of the victims, survivors, community members, and other notable personalities.

During the service, Rev. Donald Chukwudolue, delivering his message from Revelation 21:1-8, prayed for God to console the bereaved families and prevent such tragedies from recurring in the community.

He said: “We ask God to wipe away every tear and console the families of the deceased. We pray that such an accident will not occur in Okija again. Okija mourns, Anambra mourns, and Nigeria mourns.
“Nobody can hear of such a tragedy and not feel sorrowful. Only the Lord can comfort those who lost their loved ones, and we pray He continues to strengthen the families of the victims.”
While mourning the deceased, Ernest Azudialu Obiejesi reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to human development, stating that the tragedy has only strengthened their resolve to prevent similar incidents in the future.
He said: “Today, we gather here with heavy hearts to honor the memory of those we lost in the tragedy of December 21. As the founder of the Obijackson Foundation, I express my deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Okija community.
“The foundation remains steadfast in its mission of human development. This incident has only reinforced our determination to ensure such a tragedy never occurs again. Let this tragedy bring us closer as a community and strengthen our resolve to move forward together.
