The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, has ordered a full investigation into alleged unprofessional conduct by officers attached to the Jobele Police Division following a protest that disrupted activities along the Ibadan–Oyo Expressway on Tuesday.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the protest caused severe traffic congestion, leaving hundreds of motorists and commuters stranded for hours. It was reportedly sparked by residents’ anger over alleged police misconduct and a rising wave of kidnapping and banditry in the area.

Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said disciplinary actions have already been taken pending the outcome of the investigation. The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) leading the patrol team and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jobele have been issued queries, while an Inspector linked to the incident has been defaulted and detained.

Ayanlade explained:
“The Oyo State Police Command has ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged unprofessional conduct by operatives of the Jobele Division. Investigations will determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure appropriate disciplinary action is taken where necessary.”
Residents said the protest was triggered by a recent attempted kidnapping in one of the communities. A woman reportedly escaped abductors by scaling a fence but sustained a deep machete cut on her hand. Community members stated the attack was not isolated, citing several similar incidents in recent times.
“We are not going to leave the road until our safety as residents is guaranteed by the relevant security agencies,” protesters declared.
Ward 8 representative in Afijio Local Government Area, Dolapo Awotunde, confirmed that at least seven kidnapping incidents have been recorded recently, including a brutal attack over the weekend.
