A 21-year old boy, Oluwaseun Adejohn, has been sent to prison over the attempted rape of a neighbour, Taibat Abibat.
Adejohn was arraigned before the Igbosere Magistrate Court on a two-count charge of attempt to rape.
According to Police Counsel, Godspower Ehizoba, the accused committed the offence at 71, Freeman Street, Lagos Island, where he resides with the victim.
Ehizoba informed the court that the accused left his ground floor apartment of the building and went to meet the victim who was sleeping at about 10 am on the second floor and pounced on her, held her neck and attempted to rape her.
Ehizoba said screaming by the victim attracted neighbours of the building who rushed to the scene to rescue her and held the accused and invited the police to arrest him.
He said the offences the accused committed were punishable under sections 262 and 173 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges in the open court and his counsel, Oriarebhaegbe, urged the court to grant the defendant bail in the most liberal terms promising that he would not jump bail if granted.
Magistrate, Mr F. Onanusi granted the defendant N20,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till 30 March, 2020 for mention.
