Speaking to journalists in Benin City, Mr. Uzamere pointed out Edo’s strategic significance as a major crossroads connecting Nigeria’s regions. He said the heavy traffic, especially trucks, is straining roads and causing wear and tear.

“There is a misconception that the state government does not work on federal roads. In terms of administration we should look at systems, how to solve problems,” Mr. Uzamere stated.

While praising state efforts to improve roads, he stressed the ongoing need for further investment to enhance accessibility and reduce congestion.

Despite rising material costs, Mr. Uzamere emphasized adhering to high standards for durable infrastructure in Edo. He cited the need for roads that withstand time.

On inflation’s effect, Uzamere said, “Most materials for road construction like asphalt, bitumen, diesel and cement are benchmarked. Pricing has changed in recent months.”

He added, “Last year, a kilometer of road in Edo cost N400-600 million but by November, December, it had jumped to a billion naira. You can imagine how much it is now. Changes affect contracts.”

Mr. Uzamere concluded, “Edo’s importance to Nigeria cannot be overstated. It should always be a top priority for federal road budgets and resource allocation.”
