Amuneke Criticizes NFF Selection Process For Appointing Finidi George As Super Eagles Coach

Eko Hot Blog reports that Emmanuel Amuneke, former assistant coach of the Super Eagles, has criticized the selection process that led to the appointment of Finidi George as the new Super Eagles coach.

Amuneke was widely considered the frontrunner for the Super Eagles position due to his success with the Nigeria under-17 team, winning the 2015 FIFA under-17 World Cup.
He also held coaching roles with Nigeria’s under-20 team, served as a Super Eagles assistant coach, and led the Tanzania national team.
Despite being rumored as the top contender for the Super Eagles coaching position.
Finidi, who served as the assistant coach of the Super Eagles for 20 months, was appointed to the role on Monday, April 29th.

Reacting to the selection process for the new Super Eagles coach, Amunike emphasized that despite applying for the vacant role.
He said he neither underwent an interview nor received any contact from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
“There was no interview (for the job), neither was there any talk about the job with the federation.
“There was no contact from the federation nor was there an offer to take the job.
“They have chosen a new coach, who is one of us, we just need to move on and support him,” Emmanuel Amuneke said according to quotes from Punch.
Similarly, another applicant for the job, Michael Nsien, who is currently a United States Under-19 coach, said he wasn’t interviewed for the job.
“It depends on people’s standards of process”, he said.
“There weren’t interviews, which I think is basic, it would give the 2015appearance (that it was transparent) at least.”
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Amuneke has strongly criticized propagandists who, he claims, tarnished his reputation through the media.

The former African Player of the Year winner refuted allegations suggesting he had disputes with officials in the NFF during his tenure as coach of the Under-17 and Under-20 teams.
“They succeeded in smearing my name in the media because of the Eagles job,” Amuneke said.
“They can continue with their propaganda, but I will remain disciplined. It’s not a do-or-die job.
“All those allegations made in the media online because of the Eagles job are obviously not true.

“But those who recommended candidates for the job know I will not be easily bullied.
“I know there is still bad blood with these officials, but it’s fine.”
