The Delta State Police Command has arrested Efe Onoetiyi and several accomplices in connection with the brutal murder of Paulinus Okon, who was reported missing on September 8, 2024.

Paulinus’s disappearance was initially reported by his brother after he failed to return from an outing with Efe, his 30-year-old friend. Efe initially denied any involvement but later visited Paulinus’s family, where he demanded ₦500,000, claiming it was for consulting a herbalist to locate the missing man.

Subsequently, Efe informed the family that Paulinus had been kidnapped, extorting a ransom of approximately ₦20,715,000 under the pretense of negotiating with the supposed kidnappers. Suspicious of his behavior, the family alerted the authorities, leading to Efe’s arrest and the case being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Asaba.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Okeimute Gaga, 48, who confessed to the crime. In a shocking statement, Gaga revealed that Efe had orchestrated the murder. On the night of September 8, Efe, Gaga, Sunday Ikpeba, and a herbalist, Lawrence Joseph, tied Paulinus to a stake near Orere River in Otokutu and beheaded him. Gaga disclosed that Paulinus’s body was dumped in the river while his head was buried at the herbalist’s shrine.

The police, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ekpan, raided the shrine and recovered Paulinus’s skull.

When questioned, Efe admitted that he had diverted ₦30,000,000, which Paulinus had given him to purchase a house. Instead, Efe used the money to buy land and build a duplex for himself. Fearing discovery, he plotted to kill Paulinus to conceal his actions.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Abaniwonda Olufemi, confirmed that Efe and his three accomplices are in custody. He assured the public of a thorough investigation to ensure justice for Paulinus Okon.
