Ibadan Stampede: Queen Naomi, Associates Must be Prosecuted – Gov Makinde Insists

EKO HOT BLOG notes that speaking at the 2025 Annual Inter-faith Service for state workers in Ibadan, Governor Makinde stressed the importance of accountability, stating, “Even if nobody is held accountable elsewhere, in Oyo State, the rule of law will prevail.”
Makinde assured that while he respects the judicial process, including the granting of bail, the suspects must face trial to ensure justice for the victims and their families. He dismissed comparisons to similar unprosecuted incidents in other states, asserting, “Oyo State is not Anambra State. Justice must be done.”

Reflecting on the challenges of 2024, the governor recounted two major tragedies: the January explosion in Bodija and the December stampede. He expressed hope that such calamities would never recur in the state.
Makinde also addressed ongoing security challenges, pledging to intensify efforts against banditry and other crimes. He lauded the dedication of security operatives and announced a special operation targeting wrongdoers relocating to the state, urging citizens to report suspicious activities.

Additionally, the governor revealed plans to review pension remuneration to align with the new minimum wage and encouraged workers to continue their diligence.
In her welcome address, the Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, praised Governor Makinde’s worker-friendly policies, while other leaders, including Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, commended his dedication to improving welfare and governance.
