The All Progressives Congress (APC) and Rep. Wale Raji have been plunged into deep sorrow following the tragic loss of two prominent party figure on January 15, 2025.
Ekohotblog gathers that the passing of Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the National Assembly, and Chief Sunny Ajose, a former Lagos State Head of Service and a member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), has left a void in the party and across Lagos State.

Rep. Wale Raji, a federal lawmaker representing Epe Federal Constituency, expressed profound grief over the demise of both figures, acknowledging their immense contributions to public service and governance.
In his tribute to Chief Sunny Ajose, Rep. Raji reflected on their time in the Lagos State Government service, where he worked closely with the elder statesman.
“Pa Sunny Ajose was a great icon of leadership and governance. His time as Lagos State Head of Service is remembered for the transformation it brought to the civil service.
His vision, dedication, and commitment to excellence remain a legacy we must uphold,” he said.
Chief Sunny Ajose, widely respected for his leadership and mentorship, left an indelible mark on Lagos State’s governance.
His contributions, particularly to the Badagry division, were Essential in the growth and development of the state.
Similarly, the loss of Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, popularly known as “Ijaya,” has left the APC mourning an exceptional leader and advocate.
Onanuga, who represented Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, was described by Rep. Raji as an Inspiration of courage and intellect.
“Ijaya was not just a colleague but a dear sister who served with passion and dignity.
Her work as Deputy Chief Whip and her advocacy for women empowerment and social welfare were exemplary.
This is a monumental loss to the House of Representatives, her constituency, and the APC,” Rep. Raji lamented.
The APC echoed Raji’s sentiments, describing the losses as a heavy blow to the party.
A statement released by the party said, “Both Hon. Onanuga and Chief Ajose were pillars of strength, dedication, and inspiration to the APC and their communities. Their legacies will continue to guide us.”
