In a statement shared through her lawyer, Prof. Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Diezani explained that the money did not belong to her, contrary to what has been reported. She revealed that the money actually came from the sale of a yacht, Galactica, which was owned by Nigerian businessman Kola Aluko.
According to Diezani, the yacht was seized by the U.S. government, sold, and the money from the sale was sent back to Nigeria. She emphasized that she had no involvement with the yacht’s purchase, use, or sale.

Her statement, titled “There is No Such Thing as Diezani Loot,” strongly refuted the claims linking her to the repatriated funds. She said some individuals are trying to damage her reputation by spreading false information.
The statement read:
“We are concerned about the deliberate attempts to associate her with the civil forfeiture of the yacht Galactica. This yacht was sold by the U.S. government, and the money from the sale, $52.8 million, has been returned to Nigeria.
“This is just another effort to tarnish her image with untrue and misleading stories. People have falsely called this money ‘Diezani loot,’ even though she has no connection to the yacht.
“From publicly available information, the yacht was bought by Mr. Kola Aluko, who used it before agreeing to give it up to the U.S. government.”
Diezani further described the ongoing efforts to associate her with this money as a “cruel campaign of falsehoods and misinformation.” She called out those spreading these stories, saying they should stop and focus on more productive activities.
She also advised that the public verify facts instead of believing everything they hear.
This is not the first time Diezani has faced allegations about corruption and stolen funds. However, she has consistently denied the accusations and maintains that many of them are baseless.
