Incoming President Donald Trump plans to declare a “national emergency” at the US-Mexico border on his first day in office, launching a series of executive orders aimed at swiftly reversing the policies of the Biden administration.
Trump, who is set to be sworn in on Monday, is expected to sign up to 100 executive orders by the end of the day, addressing a wide range of issues from immigration to energy policy, the economy, and gender-related concerns.

Among the major actions, Trump intends to resume construction of the border wall and officially designate certain criminal organizations as foreign terrorists. During his campaign, he criticized Joe Biden’s “open-border” policies and vowed to take immediate action to address immigration issues.
In calls with reporters on Monday morning, incoming administration officials revealed a series of executive orders, including 10 focused on what one official described as “common-sense immigration policy.”
As part of the national emergency declaration, Trump plans to direct the Department of Defence to “seal the border” by increasing resources and personnel, including counter-drone technology. Additionally, the controversial “Remain in Mexico” policy, which requires migrants to wait in Mexico for asylum proceedings, will be reinstated.
Trump’s administration also aims to address inflation through a comprehensive “all-of-government approach” and plans to implement measures to boost domestic energy production and tackle high consumer energy costs. However, no new tariffs are expected to be announced on Inauguration Day, despite earlier indications that new tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China would be part of his economic agenda.

The executive orders are expected to be signed shortly after Trump takes office at noon local time (1700 GMT) at the US Capitol. Following the swearing-in ceremony, Trump will deliver his inaugural address, followed by a luncheon, parade, and a series of inaugural balls in the evening.
Due to extreme cold temperatures, the parade has been relocated to the Capital One Arena, where about 20,000 attendees will gather, a small fraction of the estimated 220,000 who had originally planned to watch from the US Capitol grounds. There is speculation that a desk set up in the arena could be used for Trump to sign executive orders in front of his supporters.
