Tragedy struck in Eziezekwe village, Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, when a middle-aged man allegedly set his wife ablaze during a heated dispute over accusations of infidelity.
The victim, identified as Chioma Nwana, succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday morning at a nearby hospital, where she had been rushed following the incident on Tuesday.

According to sources, the confrontation began when Chioma returned home after an outing, allegedly with a man her husband accused of being her secret lover.
During the ensuing argument, the husband reportedly doused her with petrol and set her on fire.
The couple, who lived together in the village, were parents to six children. Eyewitnesses said the altercation escalated rapidly, leading to the fatal act.

One source, speaking anonymously, said, “The husband was angry because people in the village had been mocking him, claiming his wife was unfaithful. He accused her of humiliating him in public and acted out of rage.”
After committing the act, the suspect presented himself at the Abagana Divisional Police Station, confessing to the crime. According to the source, he told the police, “They were using my wife’s actions to insult me in my own home.”
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, said the suspect is in custody.
“The suspect has been detained. Unfortunately, the victim passed away this morning. The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, has ordered the case to be transferred to the Homicide Unit for a detailed investigation.”
