Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have reportedly captured a top Boko Haram commander, Abu Iklima.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Abu Iklima was previously in charge of terrorist activities in Gaizuwa, Mantari, Gabchari, Kashimiri, and Maimusari within the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
Counterterrorism expert Zagazola Makama revealed that Iklima’s stronghold was dismantled during the operation, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of militants.

“His enclave was severely destroyed by troops of Operation Hadin Kai, with hundreds of fighters neutralized. The man attempted to escape, but he was captured like a chicken,” Makama stated.

In a related development, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, conducted airstrikes on January 21 in Alawa Forest, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. The operation, based on intelligence and reconnaissance, targeted armed terrorists responsible for violent attacks, including two IED bombings in December 2024.

Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa disclosed that precision airstrikes destroyed terrorist camps and their logistics bases, with secondary explosions confirming the strikes’ effectiveness.

This marked part of a continuous three-day air offensive aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region.
The military continues to intensify efforts to clear criminal elements and secure communities in Niger State and beyond.
