According to the Army, troops immediately launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation after receiving reports of the attack. The military also deployed strike aircraft and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms to support ground forces pursuing the terrorists.

The victims were kidnapped after suspected ISWAP fighters stormed the Technical Secondary School in Lassa on Monday morning while students were sitting for their NECO examinations.
During the operation, troops tracked the fleeing terrorists to the Daggu area, where a fierce gun battle ensued. The security forces overpowered the attackers, rescued 10 of the abducted victims unharmed and recovered seven motorcycles used by the insurgents during the assault.
The rescued students and teachers are currently receiving appropriate care, while military operations continue to locate and free the remaining abducted victim.
The Army, however, confirmed that the operation came at a heavy cost, as one soldier and a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) lost their lives while confronting the terrorists.

Captain Goni praised the fallen personnel for their courage and sacrifice, describing their actions as a reflection of the commitment of security forces and local volunteers working to restore peace in the North East.
He said troops have intensified operations across the area in collaboration with other security agencies to track down those responsible for the attack and prevent similar incidents.
According to the military, security has also been strengthened around vulnerable communities and schools to improve the safety of residents and students.

The Army noted that attacks on schools and other soft targets demonstrate the increasing desperation of terrorist groups facing sustained military pressure, stressing that such incidents would not weaken ongoing efforts to eliminate insurgency in the region.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilians, securing educational institutions and restoring lasting peace across the North East. The military also urged members of the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information, and rely only on official updates regarding the incident.
