A hotel manager lamented, “Running a generator all day is not affordable. The cost of fuel is too high, and this is making everything expensive for us and our customers.”
A frozen food seller added, “I can no longer stock as many items as before because I have to keep them frozen with a generator, which is very expensive.”
Similarly, a soft drink vendor shared how the situation is affecting her business: “Customers want cold drinks, but I can’t keep them chilled because the generator cost is more than my daily profit.”
Other business owners also explained that the power problem has forced them to increase their prices, which is driving away customers.
During a recent radio program, Hon. Abiodun Tobun and Alhaja Aminat Shabi spoke on the root cause of the outage.
They revealed that vandalism is a major challenge, as the power lines have been destroyed by vandals nine times, despite ongoing efforts by Epe leaders to restore electricity.
Hon. Tobun said, ” Epe leaders have been working hard to fix the light, but vandals keep destroying the cables and transformers.

This has slowed down all our efforts to bring back stable power to Epe.”
Rep. Wale Raji also addressed the issue, assuring residents that the government is actively working to fix the problem. He said,
“There is a solid plan in place to restore electricity to Epe. Everyone will soon see the results. However, we need the support of residents to protect government property. If you see anyone acting suspiciously, report them immediately.”
Alhaja Aminat Shabi urged the community to unite in protecting the electricity infrastructure.
“The light is for all of us, so we must work together to ensure it is safe from vandals. If we don’t protect it, we will keep going backward,” she said.
The power outage is not only affecting businesses but also households.
Many families are struggling with the high cost of fuel for generators, while some have completely stopped using electricity-powered appliances due to the rising costs.
