Dozens of FBI agents involved in investigations related to President Donald Trump, including probes into the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, are facing possible dismissal, U.S. media reported on Friday.
According to CNN, FBI agents who worked on now-dropped criminal cases against Trump are being evaluated for removal, with some expected to be fired as early as Friday.

NBC News also reported that over 20 heads of FBI field offices, including those in Miami and Washington, are among those affected.
At least six senior FBI officials have reportedly been given an ultimatum to “retire, resign, or be fired by Monday.” This follows the Justice Department’s decision earlier in the week to terminate officials who had been involved in prosecuting Trump.
A Justice Department spokesperson stated that these officials were removed because the acting attorney general believed they could not be trusted to implement the president’s agenda.

Special Counsel Jack Smith, who had brought two federal cases against Trump, resigned earlier this month. Smith had charged Trump with attempting to overturn the 2020 election results and mishandling classified documents after leaving office. However, neither case went to trial.
Following Trump’s victory in the November election, Smith dropped the charges in accordance with the Justice Department’s long-standing policy of not prosecuting a sitting president.
On his first day back in the White House, Trump pardoned over 1,500 of his supporters who had stormed the Capitol in an effort to stop the certification of Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory.

FBI Director Christopher Wray resigned following Trump’s reelection, and Trump has since appointed Kash Patel, a former advisor and loyalist, to lead the agency.
During his Senate confirmation hearing on Thursday, Patel denied knowledge of any plans to punish FBI agents involved in investigating Trump, stating, “I am not aware of that.”
