Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed the deadly incident in Kuwait, noting that the remains of two previously unaccounted-for service members were also recently recovered from a facility hit during the opening salvos of the conflict.
As of Monday morning, at least 18 U.S. service members have been recorded as seriously wounded, with military officials withholding the identities of the fallen for 24 hours to ensure proper next-of-kin notification.
The conflict, which entered its third day of heavy combat, was triggered early Saturday when the U.S. and Israel launched a high-stakes mission targeting Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s compound in Tehran.
The strike successfully killed Khamenei and several top military advisers, a move that President Donald Trump described as a “noble mission” intended to neutralize Iran’s long-term missile and nuclear threats.

In a video message addressing the nation, President Trump acknowledged the gravity of the situation, stating that while he expects more American casualties, the mission will continue until all strategic objectives are met.
“The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost,” he remarked, “but we are doing this for the future.”
The regional fallout has been swift and severe. Iran has responded by launching drone and missile attacks not only at Israel but also at U.S.-allied nations throughout the Middle East.
In Israel, medical officials reported at least eight deaths following a missile strike in Beit Shemesh, near Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, the U.S. military has intercepted Russian warplanes off the Alaskan coast, further complicating the global security landscape as tensions ripple beyond the Persian Gulf.
