EKO HOT BLOG reports that Kamorudeen Ogunlana has officially resumed duty as the ninth Clerk to the National Assembly, succeeding Sani Tambuwal.
The formal handover ceremony took place on Saturday at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, with top management staff and dignitaries in attendance.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the National Assembly’s Directorate of Information, Tambuwal confirmed the transition, saying, “I formally hand over this document on the National Assembly to Kamorudeen Ogunlana.”
In his acceptance speech, Ogunlana praised his predecessor for his leadership and patriotism, describing the occasion as a significant milestone.
“It is not just about completing the task; you completed it with your reputation intact,” he remarked.
Ogunlana emphasized the significance of the Clerk’s role, likening it to that of a Head of Service rather than a mere administrative position.
“Within the National Assembly Service, apart from the Public Complaint Commission, only the Clerk to the National Assembly is explicitly mentioned. This role is far from cosmetic—it is central to the smooth operation of the legislature,” he explained.
He further highlighted the scale of responsibility involved in the position, managing over 4,000 staff members, 7,000 legislative aides, and overseeing critical legislative functions, including engagements with top government officials.
“Hosting the President of this country in this space is a major task. Every time the President visits, it feels like a month-long operation for us. But Tambuwal successfully navigated these challenges,” Ogunlana stated.
Acknowledging his predecessor’s mentorship, Ogunlana commended Tambuwal for ensuring a smooth succession.
“No matter how competent you are, if you fail to groom a successor, you have not truly succeeded. He (Tambuwal) has done that remarkably well,” he added.
Outlining his vision, Ogunlana pledged to introduce reforms and foster collaboration within the management team.

“I have a legal and legislative background, but I recognize the importance of financial expertise. That is why I am pleased that even though he (Tambuwal) is leaving, his insights will remain valuable to us,” he noted.
