Spanish club Racing Santander has paid tribute to their former midfielder, Nico Hidalgo, who has passed away at the age of 32 after a battle with lung cancer.
Hidalgo made 73 appearances for Santander between 2018 and 2020.

He began his football career with his hometown club, Motril, before moving to Granada, where he played for the reserve team.
In August 2014, he signed with Juventus but was immediately loaned back to Granada, followed by another loan spell at Cádiz.
In 2020, he joined Extremadura but never played for the club. The following year, he was diagnosed with lung cancer, leading to his early retirement from football.

Santander described his passing as an “irreparable loss,” while Granada remembered him as “an excellent footballer and a great person.”
Extremadura also paid tribute, expressing their “deepest condolences” to his family and friends and offering them “love and strength in these difficult times.”
