Speaking on Monday at the inauguration of new residential quarters for Government House staff in Port Harcourt, Fubara stated that the worst that could happen to him was leaving office.

He noted that whenever his administration tried to bring stability, new challenges arose, setting the state back.
He thanked the people of Rivers State for supporting his government despite the political turmoil.

“No matter how much we have been deceived in this state, the people have now decided to take their destiny into their own hands,” Fubara said. “I do not support violence, but when the time comes to make a decision, I will lead the charge.
“I’m not afraid of anything. The worst that can happen is that I leave office. But will I stop existing? No. The right thing must be done and said when we have the chance,” he added.
For over two years, Rivers State has been in crisis due to a conflict between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. This has caused a division in the state House of Assembly, splitting it into two factions.
Last Friday, the Supreme Court upheld a ruling that barred the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant-General of the Federation from releasing Rivers State’s monthly federal allocations. The court also ordered the faction led by Martins Amaewhule in the Rivers State Assembly to resume sitting immediately.

Additionally, the court declared the local government elections held in the state on October 5, 2024, as invalid. These rulings are widely seen as favoring Wike’s faction in the ongoing power struggle.
