Security operatives of the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday forcefully dispersed supporters of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan who had gathered at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the protesters, who arrived as early as 8 a.m., were demonstrating in solidarity with the Kogi Central senator as the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions prepared to deliberate on her case.

However, police officers intervened, firing tear gas to break up the crowd and prevent disruption of legislative activities.

Eyewitnesses reported that the demonstrators, unable to access the National Assembly premises, relocated to the Unity Fountain to continue their protest.
