Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has officially handed over the certificate of occupancy (C-of-O) for 270 hectares of land to the Federal Government for the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.
The land transfer was made through the Federal Ministry of Education, marking a significant step towards the university’s commencement.

Speaking at the presentation, Governor Sani praised President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Ministers of Education, and the Permanent Secretary for their dedication to making the university a reality.
He assured that the C-of-O would be processed within seven days.
Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, expressed excitement over the university’s name and purpose. He confirmed that academic activities will begin in September 2025, as funding has already been approved in the 2024–2025 budget.
He stated that the university would offer courses in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and applied sciences, including mathematics, computer science, artificial intelligence, and environmental studies.
According to him, the choice of this university aligns with the National Educational Sector Renewal Initiative, which prioritizes STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.
He further assured that the university would receive its Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) allocation this year and emphasized the federal government’s commitment to education.
Dr. Alausa acknowledged the contributions of Vice President Kashim Shettima, who worked closely with the Governor, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, Bishop Matthew Kukah, and other community leaders to bring the project to life.
He also credited President Bola Tinubu for prioritizing education and human capital development through record-high budget allocations.
Governor Uba Sani described the university as a game-changer for Kaduna State, particularly in advancing science and technology education.
He emphasized that science is critical to Kaduna’s development and acknowledged the role of the Vice President in pushing this initiative forward.
He also commended Senator Katung for moving the motion and sponsoring the bill. He attributed the success of the initiative to President Tinubu’s commitment to education, which expedited the approval process.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s focus on education, stating that since taking office, Kaduna State has reduced the number of out-of-school children from 580,000 to 250,000.
He pledged to continue improving primary and secondary education to support federal efforts at the tertiary level, emphasizing that education is the greatest gift that can be given to both the rich and the poor.
Governor Sani stressed the need for collaboration between federal and state governments, particularly in teacher training and infrastructure development. He urged continuous investment in qualified lecturers and improved facilities to ensure the success of institutions like the Federal University of Applied Sciences.
He noted that no matter how many universities are built, without well-trained lecturers, quality education cannot be achieved.
He assured continued partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education and pledged regular engagement to support the university’s growth.
Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, praised the Governor for his commitment and acknowledged the efforts of all stakeholders who contributed to making the university a reality.
Senator Sunday Marshall Katung also expressed gratitude to the ministers, the permanent secretary, and others who played vital roles in securing the university’s establishment.
He commended Governor Sani for his dedication and for delivering the C-of-O as promised, describing it as a historic achievement for Kaduna.
