A petroleum tanker carrying approximately 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, caught fire in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday at Onipe Village, near Idi Ayunre, along the Ijebu Ode–Ibadan Road, not the Abeokuta–Ibadan Road, as initially speculated.

According to reports, the tanker lost control, veered off the road into a bush, and immediately burst into flames.
Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, stated that no casualties were recorded.
“The fire was reported at exactly 08:05 AM on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Upon receiving the report, fire personnel, led by ACFS Olubunmi, were swiftly deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, it was discovered that a petrol tanker, loaded with 45,000 litres of fuel, had lost control while in motion, swerved off the road into the forest, and caught fire.
We acted promptly and were able to contain the fire using a foam chemical compound. No casualties were recorded, though the tanker was severely affected by the fire.

The presence of officers from the Nigerian Police Force, Idi Ayunre Division, as well as members of the Agbekoya group, was instrumental in providing security at the scene.”
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident while ensuring the area remains safe.
