Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has announced plans to ensure the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport operates round the clock, positioning it as a key player in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Speaking during the March edition of his monthly media chat, “Meet Your Governor,” Oyebanji emphasized his administration’s commitment to making the airport a major economic hub that will attract investors and boost business activities in the state.
The Governor revealed that his administration is in talks with three major airlines to commence commercial operations at the airport. These efforts aim to enhance air travel, tourism, and the export of farm produce to both local and international markets.
He expressed confidence that at least two airlines would begin flights at the airport, with plans in place to install an Instrument Landing System (ILS) to support 24-hour flight operations, including night landings.
“To make the airport a preferred choice, we need infrastructure that guarantees 24-hour operations,” Oyebanji said. “The ILS, which costs about ₦4.6 billion, will be installed before the end of this year. Once completed, Ado-Ekiti Airport will be the second in Southwest Nigeria, after Lagos, to have such a facility.”

Additionally, a cargo shed is being built to facilitate the storage and export of agricultural products. The governor praised Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele for ensuring its inclusion in the national budget.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Governor Oyebanji highlighted significant economic improvements in Ekiti over the past two-and-a-half years, citing increased business activities, a rise in internally generated revenue (IGR), and better security.
