In response to the severe traffic congestion experienced in Lagos on Wednesday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has issued a public apology to Lagosians for the hours-long gridlock caused by the closure of Independence Bridge for repair work, Eko Hot Blog reports
The governor, accompanied by Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and other officials, acknowledged that communication regarding the repairs could have been better handled to minimize disruptions.

He assured residents that immediate measures would be taken to alleviate traffic flow in the area, including the deployment of additional traffic officers and security personnel, as well as improved management of alternative routes.
The governor also urged Lagosians to comply with traffic regulations and encouraged businesses to adopt remote work policies where possible to reduce road congestion.

He said, “First, I think what is appropriate is really to first tender apologies to all our citizens and to all Lagosians for the very, very difficult, erroneous practices that we experienced in the last 24 hours in the city and within the island of Lagos.
“I think this apology is important so that we can take full responsibility as a government, both at the national and sub-national levels, for just taking our people through an unfortunate incident.
