A serious road traffic accident involving two petrol-laden trucks occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning along the Epe-Ijebu-Ode Expressway at Odo Agboju, causing panic among motorists and residents in nearby communities.
Ekohotblog reports that According to eyewitnesses, the two trucks were reportedly racing side by side when they encountered a broken-down vehicle parked along the roadside.

In a frantic effort to avoid the obstruction, one of the trucks swerved abruptly, colliding with the other.
The impact caused both vehicles to overturn, spilling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) across the expressway.
“The two tankers were speeding, like they were competing. Suddenly, they both tried to dodge a faulty car and ended up crashing into each other,” said Mr. Idris, a commercial driver who witnessed the incident. “It was a miracle that the fuel didn’t ignite immediately.”

Emergency responders, including personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), arrived promptly at the scene and quickly cordoned off the area to prevent a fire outbreak and manage traffic.
“We received the distress call at about 6:15 a.m. and mobilized our team to the site immediately,” said A spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire Service. “Our primary concern has been to secure the area and prevent any spark that could lead to an explosion. We’re working closely with other emergency agencies to ensure a safe evacuation of the vehicles.”
Residents and commuters along the expressway have expressed concern over the growing number of heavy-duty vehicles using the route recklessly.

“This is not the first time,” lamented a motorcyclist, Mr. Fatai. “We keep talking about these tankers speeding like they’re on a race track. Government needs to enforce stricter speed regulations.”
As of press time, efforts were ongoing to evacuate the tankers and restore the flow of traffic at Odo Agboju, with security operatives maintaining order in the affected area. Motorists have been advised to take alternative routes or proceed with caution
