President Bola Tinubu has taken decisive action to address the damage caused by the recent flood disaster in Mokwa, Niger State.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the flood occurred on May 29, tragically claimed the lives of 158 people and destroyed a critical bridge connecting the northern and southern parts of the country.

During a condolence visit to Mokwa, Minister of State for Works Bello Goronyo revealed that President Tinubu has instructed the Federal Ministry of Works to repair the damaged bridge and provide an access road for vehicular movement.
Goronyo conveyed the president’s message to the village head of Mokwa, emphasizing the government’s commitment to restoring the infrastructure and supporting the community in the aftermath of the disaster.
“The President gave a clear directive for me to come and commiserate with the government and people of Niger state over the ugly incident.
“In his directives, he said we should do everything possible to restore the access road for vehicular movement on the damaged bridge washed away by the flood.

“The president directed that we provide an access road for vehicular movement and create an access road due to the high volume of articulated vehicles carrying goods from the north to the south,” he said.
He reaffirmed the Tinubu’s administration commitment to infrastructure development across Nigeria, particularly in Niger State due to its strategic location and extensive federal road networks connecting the North and South.
In response, the village head of Mokwa, Alhaji Mohammed Aliyu, shared that the flood disaster resulted in the collapse of over 200 houses and four bridges, with many people still missing. Among the affected bridges were the vital rail bridge and the main bridge connecting the North and South.
Aliyu appealed to the government for assistance in resettling affected individuals and rebuilding the community.
Niger State Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba expressed gratitude for President Tinubu’s condolence visit and the Federal Government’s support, emphasizing the importance of national unity and collaboration during these challenging times.
