Speaking at the event, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, praised the Federal Government for bringing the intervention to the grassroots level.
“Infrastructure is important, and we are seeing it with the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. The first phase of the 30km stretch was commissioned on Saturday, and this Thursday, Mr. President will commission the Dangote Refinery Road and Section 2 of the Coastal Highway at Eleko,” he said.
“But beyond infrastructure, today’s event shows the government is also focused on directly touching the lives of ordinary people.”
He emphasized that while street lights on the highway serve everyone, the solar kits and clean stoves would have immediate and personal impact in homes and businesses.
Also speaking, Mrs. Moremi Ojudu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (South-West), explained that the intervention was designed to address specific challenges faced by residents in the Ibeju-Lekki area.
“The water in many parts of this area is salty, and that often affects electricity infrastructure. That’s why we’re bringing in solar installations to give communities a reliable, independent source of power,” she said.
She added that the initiative would boost educational efforts and business productivity.
“With solar power, our youths and students can now read comfortably at night. Business owners will also save costs and work more efficiently.”
During the event, Mrs. Ojudu visited Mrs. Oluwadamilare Carter, a local food vendor who received two solar units to power her operations and a clean stove to support fast, smoke-free cooking. She described the support as life-changing.
Engr. Adesoji Oyedeji, representing NASENI, explained that the solar kits include a torch, a fan, four bulbs, and a radio, essential tools that help residents stay productive and informed.
He also noted that the clean stoves were designed for fast and healthy cooking without smoke pollution.
During the event, the solar kits and clean cookstoves were distributed directly to beneficiaries, many of whom expressed gratitude for the timely support.
The packages included torchlights, fans, four bulbs, and radio providing a complete, off-grid solution for lighting and ventilation.
In addition to the distribution, beneficiaries were given hands-on training on installing and maintaining the solar kits and how to use the stoves effectively.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Oluwadamilare Carter, a food vendor, received two solar units and a clean stove to support her operations.
“This is a game-changer for my business. I can now keep my food warm and serve my customers even at night without worrying about fuel or power,” she said.
Another recipient, Mr. Ogunlana, said, “The clean stove has made cooking faster and safer for my family. No more smoke in our kitchen ,I’m very grateful.”
