“Being alive to witness this day is a blessing that should not be taken for granted,” he said.
Rep. Raji emphasized the spiritual significance of the festival, reminding the people that beyond the merriment, Eid-il-Kabir stands on the pillars of sacrifice, obedience, and compassion, as exemplified by the story of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.
“But more importantly, we must not forget the values that this holy festival teaches, humility in our dealings with others, sacrifice for the good of our communities, and generosity to those in need,” he added.
He urged Muslims in Epe and Nigerians across the country to mark the celebration with large hearts, showing kindness to neighbours and extending support to the less privileged.
“Let the spirit of giving define our celebrations. Let us reach out to the needy, share with the needy, and pray for peace and prosperity in our land.”
Amid the festivities, the lawmaker also issued a cautionary note on safety and hygiene, particularly during the ritual slaughter of animals.
He advised residents to ensure that such activities are carried out in clean, safe environments to avoid health hazards or injuries.
He also advised that meat should be properly handled and cooked to prevent foodborne illnesses.
“For those travelling to be with loved ones, please observe all road safety rules. Drive responsibly, avoid night journeys where possible, and ensure your vehicles are in good condition. Your safety and that of your family must come first.”
Rep. Raji further urged the public to be security-conscious, avoid large gatherings without adequate safety measures, and to report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
