A tragic explosion believed to have been caused by a locally-made improvised explosive device (IED) planted by the Lakurawa terrorist group has claimed six lives and left three others seriously injured in Gwabro village, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident occurred during Eid-el-Kabir celebrations on Sunday afternoon when people, particularly the youth, traditionally visit relatives in different villages to pay homage.

According to an eyewitness, the victims encountered the explosive while traveling from Gwabro to the nearby Zurmuku community, unknowingly triggering the blast.
According to him, “They were simply unfortunate. These innocent victims were walking from Gwabro to the nearby Zurmuku community when they stumbled upon the device. Perhaps unaware of its nature, they may have touched it, which resulted in the explosion.”
The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed that the explosion resulted in the deaths of six men and left three women with serious injuries.

ASP Ahmed Rufai, the Command’s spokesperson, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and assured the public that the incident is under investigation.
He also stated that the injured individuals have been taken to Tangaza General Hospital for treatment.
While the chairman of Tangaza Local Government could not be reached for comment, his Special Adviser on Security Matters, Alhaji Garzali Raka, confirmed that the deceased had been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
