A tragic incident occurred on the Badagry Expressway in Lagos State, resulting in the death of a commercial tricycle rider.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the fatal collision involved an oncoming Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) reportedly driving against traffic.

According to LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq, the SUV, a Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC with the customized plate “OSUNFNKE,” was attempting to bypass congestion by driving in the opposite direction when it collided with the tricycle, which had the registration number MUS 716 QM.
The impact of the crash caused severe injuries to the tricycle rider, including a critical knee dislocation.
Tragically, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The tricycle operator sustained multiple traumatic injuries, including a critical knee dislocation, and was confirmed dead at the scene,” Taofiq said.
It was reported that the SUV driver responsible for the accident reportedly fled the scene, abandoning both his vehicle and the deceased tricycle rider.
LASTMA personnel quickly arrived at the crash site to secure the area and handed over the case to officers from the Morogbo Division of the Nigeria Police Force.
In addition, officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) assisted in transporting the victim’s remains to the mortuary at the General Hospital in Badagry.
LASTMA operatives removed the damaged vehicles from the road, allowing traffic flow to return to normal. Both vehicles were handed over to the police for further investigation into the incident.
LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki condemned the SUV driver’s actions, noting the severe violation of public safety and road regulations involved in driving against traffic.
“This lamentable loss of life is an unfortunate testament to the deadly ramifications of impunity on our roads,” Bakare-Oki said.
Authorities are actively pursuing the whereabouts of the SUV driver who fled the scene.
