EKO HOT BLOG reports that INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this on Wednesday during the commission’s second regular consultative meeting with media executives held at INEC headquarters in Abuja.
Professor Yakubu explained that the applications are currently undergoing thorough processing, in line with the Electoral Act, as well as INEC’s internal regulations and guidelines.
“As of Monday, 23rd June 2025, the Commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations that wish to register as political parties,” Yakubu said. “We are diligently processing these requests in line with the procedures outlined by law and our established guidelines.”
The INEC Chairman noted that all applications received to date have been officially acknowledged, except for six recent submissions, which he assured would be addressed before the end of the week.
“For emphasis, I wish to inform Nigerians, particularly those interested in registering new political parties, that the handbook containing the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties 2022 is already available on the Commission’s website,” he added.
Yakubu also announced that INEC is making the full list of the 110 associations public. The list contains each association’s proposed name, acronym, office address, and the names of their protem Chairmen and Secretaries.

“For transparency and public awareness, the list will be uploaded to our website and shared on our social media platforms shortly. Hard copies of the list have also been provided to participants in this meeting,” Yakubu stated.
INEC continues to emphasise the importance of transparency and adherence to due process in the registration of political parties.
