EKO HOT BLOG reports that the clarification was made on Saturday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who described the reports as false and misleading.
In a statement titled ‘Akume Remains SGF’, the Presidency stressed that there had been no such development and warned Nigerians to disregard the fabricated information.
“There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement read.
It further explained that President Tinubu, who is currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments and accused mischief-makers of spreading the false reports.
“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it,” the statement continued.
The Presidency urged Nigerians and the general public to ignore the fake news and remain cautious of false information circulating on social media and other platforms.
This clarification comes barely 24 hours after the sudden resignation of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, who stepped down citing health concerns. Ganduje’s resignation has sparked a wave of speculations within political circles, further fuelling false reports such as the alleged replacement of Akume.

The Presidency’s swift response aims to quell the rising tide of misinformation and reaffirm George Akume’s position as the SGF.
