Justice Binta Fatima Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday ruled against the suspension of Kogi State Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan and declared it invalid.
Eko Hot Blog reports that she directed the Senate to reinstate the senator, stating that the six-month suspension was unconstitutional and deprived her constituents of proper representation.

The judgment was delivered in response to a lawsuit filed by Akpoti Uduaghan challenging her suspension.
Justice Nyako acknowledged that while the National Assembly has the authority to discipline its members, such measures must not be excessive to the point of denying citizens their right to representation.

She noted that the suspension was unreasonable, as it surpassed the 180 days the Senate is mandated to sit in a year.
However, the court also found Akpoti Uduaghan guilty of contempt and imposed a fine of N5 million.
Additionally, she was ordered to issue a public apology through two national newspapers and on her Facebook page.
