EKO HOT BLOG reports that at the BRICS summit held on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the bloc, which includes Iran, Russia, China, Brazil, India, and other nations, collectively condemned the military actions against Iran that began on June 13, 2025.
“We condemn the military strikes against the Islamic Republic of Iran since June 13,” BRICS leaders said in a joint statement. Although the statement did not directly mention the United States or Israel, it strongly criticized the air strikes.
The group also expressed deep concern over the attacks on civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities. “We further express serious concern over deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities,” the summit communique read.
According to BRICS, the air strikes on Iranian sites, including nuclear facilities at Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan, represent a clear violation of international law.
This unified position is seen as a diplomatic win for Iran, which had previously faced limited global support after enduring a 12-day bombing campaign by Israel that later involved the United States targeting nuclear sites.
The summit featured key leaders, including Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who were physically present, while Russia’s President Vladimir Putin joined virtually.
Diplomatic sources revealed that the BRICS member states initially disagreed on the tone of the condemnation, especially regarding Israel’s attacks on Iran and the ongoing conflict in Gaza. However, after further deliberations and Iran’s request, the final statement carried a much stronger language.
