In a renewed effort to strengthen public engagement and enhance strategic communication within the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has officially launched the second phase of a specialized training programme for Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs), in collaboration with the CLEEN Foundation.
Ekohotblog reports that the training, which commenced on Monday, July 8, 2025, in Ikeja, Lagos State, focuses on Social and Behavioural Change Communication (SBCC) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention Strategies. It is scheduled to run through Thursday, July 10. The first phase was earlier held in Kaduna from June 24 to 26, 2025.

Speaking on behalf of the IGP, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Oluhundare Jimoh Moshood, declared the programme open and emphasized the critical role of effective communication in building public trust, promoting transparency, and fostering behavioural change.
“The need to equip our PPROs with modern communication skills cannot be overemphasized. This training empowers them to manage public perception, tackle misinformation, and promote transparency in our policing approach,” CP Moshood stated.
According to IGP Egbetokun, the SBCC training is both timely and strategic as it enhances the capability of PPROs to communicate empathetically and efficiently with citizens while driving community-oriented policing reforms.
“This programme is part of our broader vision for citizen-centered policing. It reflects our dedication to proactive communication, institutional reform, and partnerships that support democratic policing,” the IGP stated in his remarks delivered at the event.
The training includes PPROs from various police formations across the southern region and covers key modules such as audience analysis, behaviour change strategies, message design and delivery, digital media utilization, and community engagement.
The IGP reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to professionalism, accountability, and continuous capacity-building as means of restoring public confidence and upholding the rule of law.
The collaboration with CLEEN Foundation highlights the growing emphasis on human-centered law enforcement, especially in addressing gender-based violence and enhancing information management systems across the Force.
