EKO HOT BLOG reports that a five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Mohammed Garba, dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, seeking to overturn the September 21, 2024 governorship election results.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Garba ruled that the appellants failed to provide credible evidence showing that Okpebholo did not secure lawful votes or that the judgments of the lower courts were flawed.
“The appeal is hereby dismissed for lacking in merit. The judgment affirms the decisions of the tribunal and the Court of Appeal,” he declared.
With this verdict, Okpebholo’s victory under the All Progressives Congress (APC) has now been conclusively validated by the nation’s highest court.
However, the PDP in Edo State has strongly criticised Governor Okpebholo, accusing him of prioritising political fanfare over governance.
In a statement on Friday, Chris Osa Nehikhare, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee in the state, alleged that the governor had turned Edo into a “theatre of political jamborees,” neglecting the pressing developmental needs of the people.

The party described the governor’s recent political engagements as “reckless and self-serving,” claiming that he has been misusing public funds on unnecessary events while travelling across the country seeking loans.
“Barely days after squandering billions of scarce public funds to host APC governors in Benin City, Okpebholo is set to waste even more taxpayers’ money on another hollow gathering, the so-called South-South Summit,” Nehikhare alleged.
