Dr. Ogbuku shared that President Tinubu had instructed him to personally thank the youths and women of the region for their unwavering support and collaboration.
He highlighted that during a period last year when youth protests were being planned in various parts of the country—allegedly driven by political motives—the youths and women in the Niger Delta chose not to participate and instead maintained peace in the region.
The NDDC chief recalled that the Commission hosted a youth forum attended by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu, and other key stakeholders.
“At that event, the people of the Niger Delta chose to take responsibility for their destiny and declared they would not be part of any protest. So while unrest spread in some parts of the country, our region remained calm,” he said.
He added, “The President has shown appreciation by focusing on the NDDC. It remains his channel for engaging with you, and that is why its activities are critical to him.”
Dr. Ogbuku noted that as the Commission marks 25 years of existence, it has made notable progress and owes much of its achievements to the support of youths and women in the region.
“This programme was designed specifically for you. We believe it is important to reconnect with you, listen to your views, and share our progress and future plans as we begin a new phase in the Commission’s journey,” he said.
He stressed that the programme was also meant to gather feedback from participants and ensure that the Commission’s next steps align with their expectations, goals, and aspirations.
Dr. Ogbuku also mentioned that the NDDC had launched a Youth Internship Scheme and modernised its youth initiatives through digital platforms to ensure wider access.

He added, “As long as you are listed in our database, we will contact you based on your areas of competence and strength. We developed a process for integrating data into our operations to ensure that as many people as possible benefit from our youth programmes.”
He further emphasized that President Tinubu has directed the Commission to prioritize the completion of ongoing legacy projects, noting that no project should be left unfinished. He expressed appreciation for the support of the Minister, an engineer, who is assisting both technically and administratively.
Dr. Ogbuku also acknowledged the backing of the National Assembly, highlighting that lawmakers are working closely with the NDDC to fulfill its mission of transforming the Niger Delta region.
