A former Queensland nurse has been jailed after hiring a patient to violently assault her ex-boyfriend, a senior police inspector, in a revenge-fuelled plot.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Karenjeet Kaur Warburton paid the patient $3,000 to mutilate Inspector Don McKay, whom she dated for over a year before their relationship ended in 2021.

Warburton gave the man photos of McKay and his home, asking him to burn the inspector’s face with acid, cut off his penis and tongue, and damage his spine to cause paralysis.
The Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) described her actions as “shocking” and banned her from working in the healthcare sector for the next four years.
Tribunal member Julie Dick noted that Warburton, who worked as a registered nurse, offered even more money after the initial payment and only abandoned the plan after her arrest.
“She had paid a significant amount and offered an even more significant amount to the proposed assailant,” the tribunal’s ruling stated.
Between April and October 2021, she made contact with the patient, identified as Andrew Bown, believing he could execute the plan due to his history and background.
She also attempted to mislead authorities by suggesting Bown was manipulating her, but evidence showed she had initiated and pursued the conspiracy.
Warburton eventually pleaded guilty to attempting to procure grievous bodily harm and to procure a malicious act with intent.
She was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment, suspended after 16 months behind bars, at the Cairns District Court.
At the QCAT disciplinary hearing, Warburton admitted her conduct amounted to professional misconduct and acknowledged using her role to exploit a patient.
“She will have to reapply for registration,” Ms Dick said, adding that her future return to nursing would involve significant hurdles, including retraining.
The tribunal banned her until at least March 2027, with her nursing registration officially cancelled from April 2024.

Meanwhile, Bown was sentenced in November 2022 to three-and-a-half years in prison for his involvement in the plot, including charges of arson and possessing a dangerous item.
