The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, described the new policy as a crucial component of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places education at the center of national development efforts.
Dr. Alausa explained that the policy aligns with the National Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), which seeks to drive transformation in the education sector through reforms, innovation, and inclusivity.
The minister emphasized that the policy sets out clear standards for non state schools in areas such as infrastructure, teacher qualifications, and curriculum delivery.

It also establishes a framework for collaboration between non state schools and the government to help achieve national education goals.
Some of the key focus areas of the policy include:
- Quality Assurance: Ensuring that non state schools meet required standards in infrastructure, teaching personnel, and academic content.
- Accountability: Promoting transparency and holding non state schools responsible for educational outcomes and operational integrity.
- Equity and Inclusion: Guaranteeing that all children, regardless of their background or location, have equal access to quality education.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmad, described the launch as a landmark moment for the education sector. She reiterated that the policy will support NESRI’s vision by creating a clear and collaborative pathway for integrating non state schools into the national education agenda.
Professor Ahmad urged all stakeholders, including school proprietors, government regulators, civil society organizations, and the wider public, to support the implementation of the policy and contribute to building a more inclusive and effective education system.
The event attracted a wide range of participants, including education experts, non state school representatives, policy makers, development partners, and members of the media. Attendees commended the government’s efforts to bring structure and accountability to a rapidly growing segment of the education sector.
With the launch of the National Policy on Non State Schools, the Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to education reform and the belief that strong public and private sector collaboration is key to transforming Nigeria’s learning environment and securing a brighter future for all.
