Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday led a high-level delegation from the National Assembly to Daura, Katsina State, on a condolence visit to Governor Dikko Radda, following the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Speaking during the visit, Akpabio described Buhari as “a patriot, a man of integrity, and a shining light who served Nigeria both as a military leader and as a democratically elected president.” He noted the former leader’s humility, discipline, and enduring love for the country.
Recounting their journey, the Senate President revealed that the delegation initially attempted to travel on Tuesday, but their flight was unable to land due to the closure of Katsina airport. The aircraft reportedly hovered for over two hours before returning to Abuja. “We insisted we must return today to honour a man who gave everything for Nigeria,” Akpabio said.
The Senate leader recalled his personal interactions with Buhari and praised his legacy of selflessness and national service. He also mentioned his role in establishing the Faculty of Law at the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, during his time as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs. He said he had refused the faculty be named after him, insisting it bear Buhari’s name as a sign of deep respect.
“That’s how much we respected him,” Akpabio added, drawing applause from attendees.
Akpabio also lauded Governor Radda for his leadership, citing the historical bond between Katsina and Akwa Ibom states, both created on the same day in 1987. “Development doesn’t come from money alone, it comes from love for the people,” he said.
In response, Governor Radda expressed appreciation for the Senate’s visit and reflected on his close personal relationship with the late president. “Since his retirement, I visited Baba every two to three weeks. He always reminded me to fear God, lead with justice, and love this country,” he shared.
Radda described Buhari as warm, fatherly, and deeply inspirational to those close to him. “His passing is a great loss to Katsina, to Nigeria, and to all of us who looked up to him as a father,” he said.

Members of the Senate delegation included Chief Whip Senator Tahir Munguno, Senator Ali Ndume, Senator Saliu Mustapha, Senator Benson Agadaga, Senator Munir, Senator Sani Zangon Daura Jr., and Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong.
