The Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri Erewa, has praised the official recognition of July 5 as “Ijaw Day” by the City of Houston, Texas, calling it a proud and historic occasion for the Ijaw people, Bayelsa State, and Nigeria as a whole.

Dabiri Erewa described the honor as a major achievement that supports NiDCOM’s mission to strengthen connections between Nigerians at home and abroad while celebrating and preserving cultural identity.
“The recognition of 5 July as Ijaw Day in Houston, Texas, is both a celebration and a call to deepen diaspora engagement and collaboration,” she said.
The NiDCOM Chairperson emphasized that this recognition presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen partnerships with state governments, particularly Bayelsa State, and to promote initiatives that harness the influence of the diaspora for national development.
